Bitcoin is digital currency that, like regular currency, can be bought and exchanged. So lets think of it as cash, you hold your cash in your wallet, you spend it and keep the change in your wallet, you earn more cash and you keep it accessible to you in your wallet. If you want to change your cash into any other currency you go to an exchange, pay a fee, use the current exchange rate that can move up or down in value, and then you have cash in another currency that you keep in your wallet. Off to Barbados we go!
Digital currency wallets are, well...digital! They can be in the form of apps on your phone or sometimes you are given a wallet when you use an exchange service. Let’s say you're on the way to Barbados (oh come on let’s go!), you change your cash at an exchange service at the airport to get local currency and they give you a free envelope to hold it in with their logo on it. That’s your wallet and its yours to keep and protect. Most of us might choose to use our own wallet even if we were given a free one simply because it has more appealing pockets and zips and a fancy leopard skin print on it.
In your wallet, if you have Bitcoin, you will have a public key to identify it. This public key is the address people use to send and receive Bitcoin! As you would give your bank account details to someone sending you money, you would give your public key to someone sending you Bitcoin. You will also have a private key, but this is not to be shared and must be kept private only to you.

REDEEM
iOS wallets are hot wallets. Any wallet that is on an internet connected device like an iPhone is a hot wallet. Hot wallets are more vulnerable to hackers because hackers access and infect devices through the internet.
For secure storage, you need a cold storage wallet which means the wallet is stored and use only on an offline device. An example of this type of wallet are hardware wallets like the Ledger Nano S or a paper wallet.
If you have a jailbroken iOS device you should be very careful about storing any amount of bitcoins on the device. Jailbroken devices are more vulnerable to being hacked.
It depends on what wallet you’re using. Some wallets allow you to set a PIN code so that only you can access the coins. Most of the wallets listed above also encrypt your wallet so that it would be very hard for the average person to access should they have your phone.
Still, you should always keep backups and if you do lose your phone, restore the wallet backup onto your new phone or send them to a different wallet.
Each wallet will walk you through backing up your wallet when you set it up. There are different methods. Most have you write down a 24 word seed that is a backup of your wallet.
Of course. There are no limitations on how many or which wallets you can use. It's recommended to download a few wallets, test them out and decide which one you like best!
Yes. Apple does not check every wallet that it allows into the app store. Do your research and make informed decisions as you would with any financial transaction.
